President’s section
Dear Colleagues,
During 2017, we have achieved several positive steps including; the consolidation of our relationship with the European Cardiology Review (ECR) which has received Pubmed citation, a new website, the position paper on Antiarrhythmic Drugs which will be published probably in December/January, integration of some new and active governors, the Annual Scientific Meeting held in Barcelona which had a great high level programme and which allowed delegates to enjoy the Catalan city and culture, and continued collaboration with other societies.
I would like therefore to express again my gratitude to all of you who have collaborated in any way with the ISCP. Surely, without help from so many of you, it would have been impossible to achieve these goals. At the same time, I would like to encourage all of us again to further promote the society. I believe this is the best way to assist the ISCP Board with the growth and success of the society.
I want to thank all the ISCP Board Members, who collaborated in diverse working groups and did a great job for the ISCP during 2017. Of those who contributed, Prof Juan Carlos Kaski mainly worked in the consolidation of ECR and the website. Prof Felipe Martinez represented the society in diverse international specialised forums, Prof George Dan organised meetings and carried out the titanic task of coordinating the position paper on Antiarrhythmic Drugs with other societies (European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA), ESC Working Group on Cardiovascular Pharmacology, endorsed by the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) and Asia-Pacific Heart Rhythm Society (APHRS) ), Prof Augusto Gallino continued in the role of ISCP Treasurer a position he has held for the past four years, Prof Thomas Kahan took as his main role the coordination of governors and Prof Dennis Cokkinos and Prof Edgardo Escobar mainly worked as Secretary and Advisor, respectively. Prof Koji Hasegawa has been a very supportive vice president and has already organised the next annual congress while also helping to expand the society in the Asiatic countries.
I also would like to thank our secretary Begoña Lugg as well as Dr Lisa Demos and Prof John McNeil for their essential and dependable support over the year and also those Governors who have contributed to the ISCP growth and visibility. Also several members (e.g. Prof Juan Tamargo and Prof Pablo Avanzas, the scientific collaborators of the website) have successfully contributed to the society. I want to thank them and all those who in any way have supported us over the year.
As an international, intercontinental society, the future of the ISCP looks brilliant. I hope you will join us and participate in our educational and research endeavours and I especially hope that many of you will be able to join us at our next Annual Meeting in Kyoto, Japan in May 2018 for what we are sure will be an inspiring and memorable 23rd Annual Scientific Meeting of the Society. In addition, it will give us an opportunity to enjoy the rich ancient Japanese culture and share time together.
Dear friends, in summary, it has been a privilege for me to serve the ISCP. Now, you all know where you have a friend if you need me.
Receive my warmest wishes for the next days and for the New Year!
Prof Antoni Martinez-Rubio,
President, ISCP
