In 2019 ISCP had two successful meetings. The 24th Annual Scientific Meeting in Lugano, Switzerland where Profs Eugene Braunwald and Salim Yusuf honoured the Society with outstanding honorary lectures, and the ISCP session at the ESC Congress & World Congress of Cardiology in Paris. A privileged relationship has been established with the WHF after an ISCP/WHF Meeting in Paris in September 2019.
As this year comes to an end we bid farewell Augusto Gallino as ISCP President and welcome Hector Ventura as the ISCP President for 2020. We also welcome the new ISCP Governors for South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.

Outgoing President’s message
This year has been a very special one for me, and my presidency of the ISCP will be a treasured memory. The ISCP Scientific Meeting in Lugano, Switzerland in June 2019 included an extensive programme and was a great success. These annual meetings provide an opportunity to meet colleagues and exchange information and views.
Several local meetings endorsed by the Society were held this year. These included meetings in Barcelona, Seoul, Buenos Aires, Tokyo and Bucharest. The ISCP website includes reports from some meetings including the recent AHA Scientific session in Philadelphia. The benefits of being a truly international society are apparent when we see this sharing of knowledge.
As the website evolves we welcome contributions and comments. Do please explore the website as it contains topics that may be of interest and help to students and practitioners of cardiovascular pharmacotherapy. Most of you will have a local Governor, listed on the website, so please also contact them with your ideas and suggestions for ISCP related activities.

CVCT Forum
The 16th Global CVCT (CardioVascular Clinical Trialist) Forum was held in Washington DC, USA in December. As in recent years, a Joint Session CVCT-ISCP was part of the Scientific Program. The title of the CVCT-ISCP Joint Session was Diet and CV Prevention Trials. Hector Ventura and Koji Hasegawa represented the ISCP as Speakers. Felipe Martinez was also a Faculty Member in another two Sessions. More than 1800 delegates registered for the Forum, this was the highest number of delegates ever recorded.
Annual Fall Meeting 2019, ISCP Korea Chapter (K-ISCP)
The aim of the meeting was to promote cardiovascular pharmaceutical knowledge, set the stage for interaction with colleagues and enhance collaborations with other societies and institutes. 100 delegates attended the meeting. The meeting was held in November and was a great success especially the Joint Education Session with the Korean Society of Health System Pharmacists. Congratulations to Sang Hong Baek (ISCP Governor, Korea Chapter) and Jong-Chan Youn.

We welcome Young Keun On as ISCP Governor for South Korea, Ta-Chen Su as ISCP Governor for Taiwan, and Rungroj Krittayaphong as ISCP Governor for Thailand.
ISCP Joint Session
ISCP will be running a joint session at the Asian-Pacific Society of Atherosclerosis and Vascular Diseases (APSAVD 2020) Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in June 2020. The title of the symposium is ‘Targeting Inflammation to Prevent Atherosclerosis’.
News from World Heart Federation (WHF)
Sixth edition of Emerging Leaders Programme: The Programme, developed by Dr Salim Yusuf in 2014, provides training and networking opportunities in cardiovascular health policy and implementation research for healthcare practitioners, researchers, and global health advocates. Focusing on a different priority area each year, the objective of the training module is to reduce the global burden of cardiovascular disease in line with UN Sustainable Development Goal 3.4. This year 25 participants from 16 countries attended and the focus was on “Heart failure and digital health”.
Global CVD Roadmaps: WHF has published Roadmaps on Hypertension, Secondary Prevention, Tobacco Control, Atrial Fibrillation, Rheumatic Heart Disease, Cholesterol, and the latest which are CVD & Diabetes and Heart Failure. The aim is to identify potential roadblocks on the pathway to effective prevention, detection and management of CVD, along with evidence-based solutions to overcome them. The resulting documents provide a framework to translate strategic intent into action on integrating epidemiology, population and cardiovascular outcome trial data into national plans for optimal CVD management. WHF plans to update the Roadmaps with new information based on developments in each area.
Global Alliance on HF and Healthy Aging: WHF has joined the newly launched Global Alliance on Heart Failure and Healthy Aging, which brings together experts across the cardiovascular, aging, economics, policy and communications fields to slow the impact of heart failure as we age, through earlier diagnosis and treatment, better care and awareness.
ACC.20 and the World Congress of Cardiology: This Congress will combine the American College of Cardiology’s leading expertise in cardiovascular science and education with the World Heart Federation’s unique global perspective on cardiovascular health.
Air Pollution Expert Group (APEG): 10 distinguished air pollution and cardiovascular disease experts from around the world have been approved by the WHF Board to form the new Air Pollution Expert Group (APEG). Air pollution is rapidly being recognized as one of the most significant risk factors for cardiovascular health. The Air Pollution Expert Group is looking forward to several technical engagements, including a Position Paper and a capacity-building toolkit in partnership with the WHO.
ISCP Book Series: Current Cardiovascular Therapy
The Current Cardiovascular Therapy Series was created with the support of the ISCP. The books provide both an in-depth view of the science and pharmacology behind these drugs and a practical guide to their usage. Each volume contains practical illustrations and is designed to improve understanding and practical usage of cardiovascular drugs in specific clinical areas.
The series currently includes 9 books with a 10th book available in early 2020. Current titles include Antiplatelet and Anticoagulation Therapy; Pharmacological Treatment of Acute Coronary Syndromes; Atrial Fibrillation Therapy; Cardiac Drugs in Pregnancy; Pharmacotherapy in Aortic Disease; Pharmacologic Trends of Heart Failure; Pharmacological Treatment of Chronic Stable Angina Pectoris; ACEi and ARBS in Hypertension and Heart Failure; Treatment of Pulmonary Hypertension.
The books are available as e-books or in soft cover at a discounted rate for ISCP members.
European Cardiology Review (ECR) – Official ISCP Journal
The European Cardiology Review is a PubMed indexed, peer-reviewed journal comprising review articles, editorials and case reports. The journal is led by Editor-in-Chief Juan Carlos Kaski, along with Associate Editor Pablo Avanzas, supported by Associate Editors, and underpinned by an editorial board of world-renowned physicians.
The ECR is a free on-line review accessible via the ECR website. Article PDFs can be accessed via login or by registering. Articles are also published in full online on PubMed Central.
Volume 14, Issue 3 Winter 2019 is available on line along with several online first articles. The current issue includes behavioural interventions to reduce cardiovascular risk, the role of smart devices in modern medicine, electronic cigarettes and cardiovascular risk and more.
